BR 60008 once more
Went to the National Railroad Museum today and took some more photos, intending to go for better detail of the subjects.
So here is 60008 once more and it's two coaches.
Word to the wise, it isn't going anywhere any time soon.
60008:
Not much has changed from last time, however the covers along the boiler casing have been shut, but that is all that's different as far as I can see.

Coaches:
I didn't want to forget the coaches this time, so I got as many detailed photos as I could. Since this is all tucked away to one side of the building, it isn't really easy to get photos of these, so I hope you enjoy what I got.

Re: BR 60008 once more
Saw DDE on her last journey in the UK. I think she'd been spruced up at Doncaster after withdrawal and was sent cold down the old GC to Southampton.
A pal of mine had been tipped off that there was a 'special' due through Bulwell Common - we expected 'Flying Scotsman' again, pretty much a regular on specials in those days - but then a 9F 2-10-0 was clanking towards us pulling a very odd looking combination of wagons. DDE was in there - one of the very few 'Streaks' that ever appeared on the former GC.
A couple of years earlier 'Mallard' had travelled down to Clapham by the same route.
There's vt of DDE on its last trip through New Basford on the 'Annesley Fireman' website.

Lovely pics, thanks for posting them. It's amazing just how complete 60008 is, isn't it? The GNR axlebox cover surprises, is that a remnant from one of the original 8 wheel tenders I wonder?

Re: BR 60008 once more
Nice pictures.
If it's the latter then good. That museum takes care of her and keeps her looking quite smart. I don't see any reason for her to be brought back unless of course the Museum no longer required her. It would be nice however for them to steam her to allow her to stretch her legs... although without the horrid silver rods.
Do you mean she wont steam any time soon or she wont come back to the UK any time soon?LNER Fan 60008 wrote:Word to the wise, it isn't going anywhere any time soon.

Yes, the latter. I wasn't intending to sound rude, but I remember the last topic about this locomotive spiraled into people wanted it to go to the UK. The museum has shown no interest in sending it abroad for the time being.kieranhardy wrote:Nice pictures.

I agree on seeing it run again. Out of all the locomotives there, I think seeing it run would be the most impressive.
I don't personally mind the silvered rods, although I would have to question if it's really accurate or not.
I wondered about that, too. But I'm not really sure why they have GNR on them. The GNR axlebox cover surprises, is that a remnant from one of the original 8 wheel tenders I wonder?
Does anyone know why the axle boxes have GNR on them?

Re: BR 60008 once more
I am very grateful to see photos of the coaches as i am making models of them both.I have finished the bodies and now working on the interior and then starts the painting, inside and out. Many thanks again,Allan.
Re: BR 60008 once more
Am I right in thinking that one of the coaches was named "Bayonet" and was fitted with armour plating in addition to the internal redesign. I also recall reading somewhere that Arthur Peppercorn oversaw the conversion. Also that Thompson wasn't happy that Pepp got the credit? Please someone correct me if you have more information.

Presumably returning No. 8 to steam would be no trivial matter. Can someone confirm what condition it was shipped in ?

Re: BR 60008 once more
Other than the cosmetic overhaul she would be in as withdrawn condition. No real way of telling the condition of the boiler unless it was removed from the frames and inspected. She could be in a quite tired condition or quite reasonable, i'm sure someone somewhere knows.brsince78 wrote:Much appreciatedLNER Fan 60008 wrote:Hope everyone enjoyed this boatload of photos.

Not in that tone they aren't. Mallard has silver rods but they don't look anything like that colour.LNER Fan 60008 wrote:I don't personally mind the silvered rods, although I would have to question if it's really accurate or not.
This is the tone they should be http://www.docbrown.info/docspics/nymr/ ... 312899.jpg
