NER goods wagons and hoppers
Hello everyone,
Whilst back home during the summer I spent some time at the Beamish Museum photographing the NER goods stock on display.
This includes vans, hoppers, chauldrons, etc. Would anyone be interested in me posting these?
Also spent a whole day in the archives at the NRM collecting diagrams, drawings and plans, etc., all of which have now arrived in Kuwait.

That would be good, you can never have enough photo's.
They will compliment the ones on a similar topic last year on here on 20 ton hoppers.

Re: NER goods wagons and hoppers
I think I need to expand the static side of the website. Rolling stock would be the obvious next thing (maritime is in the works...). I'm not sure the best way to do it. Perhaps a "biography page" for each broad type.
Eg. a page for "NER hoppers", "NER opens"??
Does it make sense to arrange them by constituent company? Or to group them by category across the system?
The former does allow some variation - eg. the NER would have sections for ironstone and coal hoppers.
Pages could be expanded as pictures become available. Eg. a first attempt at coal hoppers could have P1 chaldrons, and P6s, but then P4s could be added as we find photos, and perhaps a P2 if someone builds a model ("on my work bench").
Then there are the photos - these could be hard to come by. And the text. I do NOT want to lift text wholesale (or even select paragraphs) from a text like Tatlow.
Anyway, perhaps some of these photos could be a good way to kick things off?

Re: NER goods wagons and hoppers
Excellent idea, Richard. You're welcome to redeploy any of my photos from the Beamish thread earlier this year as well.
Re: NER goods wagons and hoppers
Will resize them and post in the next couple of days.

Re: NER goods wagons and hoppers
On the rolling stock? Yes.
Perhaps we need:
Carriages
Wagons
Non-revenue earning
Then each of these would be divided by Constituent Company & LNER. And then further divisions as we feel are appropriate.
Where would NPCS go? Carriages, Wagons, or their own section?

Excellent piccies, Malcolm. The "Birdcage" brake is particularly interesting.
