Today I made the mistake of visiting NRM Shildon on a bank holiday monday, and even worse didn't realise for a good half hour or so in which time I could have easily got the shots I wanted, ho hum! On the plus side, most of the NER exhibits were in very good positions, and best of all, I was able to go in the cab and have a tour of the controls etc, something i've wanted to do for years as it's been one of my favourite locomotives since childhood. I'll post more detailed photographs of some of the exhibits on their relevant topics on the forum, so here's an overview of the LNER exhibits at Shildon
North Eastern Railway 0-6-0 C class/J21 65033
'Heartbeat' bus
Inside the nose of the ES1
North Eastern Railway BO-BO Electric Shunting Locomotive 1
Not LNER or constituent, but I liked the angle of this APT shot
Great Northern Railway Stirling 'Single' - there was an appeal display mounted on a table and display boards by the front looking for funds to restore the 'right' tender for it, which can be seen recently shot-blasted and repainted outside
1850 Great Northern Railway hand crane
North Eastern Railway Gateshead horse-drawn Fire Engine
Stockton and Darlington Railway Dandy Cart
The splendid North Eastern Railway M or D17 4-4-0 1621
North Eastern Railway 20 ton hopper
East Coast Joint Stock Third
North Eastern Railway Snow Plough
ECJS Passenger Brake Van

Thanks for these Rlangham. The passenger van was part of the East Coast Royal Train and latterly was kept in Bounds Green depot under cover. One day around 1975, it was claimed for the National Collection and drawn out into daylight for the first time in many years. Those of us working nearby outside were warned to expect clouds of dust as the roof had a thick layer of the stuff on it. Wish I'd had a camera with me
A topper is proper if the train's a non-stopper!

I've been building 'Slaters' gauge 'O' 20 ton coal hoppers and have found the image posted very helpful. Not just the construction but the colour as well. Research suggesting that early ones were light grey, NE were mid grey and LNER were a darker grey only gave me the vaguest of clues. Thank you for your post and other interesting images.

Looks like all the OP's Photobucket photos are now lost.

Photobucket have an awful lot to answer for... I'm currently writing a blog on my build of 4472 which now covers more than 11 years of work ... Yesterday I reached the part where I began to use 'photobucket' my workload has just quadrupled trying to find the original images... B******s
