Plessey Viaduct.

Plessey Viaduct, on the ECML between Stannington and Cramlington, suffered some damage last week when a length of the west side parapet and oversail became dislodged and much of it ended up collapsing. Amazingly, engineers decided that the down line was safe to use and trains have continued to run; there is some disruption to local services as up trains have to use the crossover in the station.
Some services have been diverted via the Blyth and Tyne line through Bedlington, including Flying Scotsman last week.

A simplistic reading of this failure is that the mid C19th structure built by Stephenson's team is still fit for purpose, but the stuff since piled on top isn't.

For many years it was 75 over the viaduct then it went up to 110, wonder if that has eventually caused problems.

May have helped when they removed the rails they put them in the six foot rather than the cess. Especially when using machines to move them.😉😉
