I have just added two new articles.
The first is a description of "Valve Gear used by the LNER" and includes brief histories and descriptions (mainly from a UK/LNER point of view):
http://www.lner.info/article/tech/valve ... gear.shtml
(currently covers the Walschaert, Stephenson, and Joy gears)
The second is more in-depth and covers "Gresley's Conjugated Valve Gear":

The articles include animations of the different kinds of valve gear. Thanks are due to Charles Dockstader for allowing me to create the animations from his valve gear programs.

Valve Gear
Dockstader's animations are marvellous. To turn these into 3D computer models is another story but I'm trying. Can anyone help me with photos of locomotive valve gears ? I have several of Walschearts but I would particularly like photos of Stephensons. From the top and/or underneath.
