For some years now, there have been moves made to re-open some of the stations between Berwick and Edinburgh; particularly East Linton and Reston.
It has been announced today that the local council is committing a large amount of money to push the project forward:

If a good stopping service is introduced between Berwick and Edinburgh, it could transform travel in the area. It can only be hoped that these plans come to fruition and, once the service has proved to be successful, the trains are extended from Berwick to Newcastle as we desperately need a better service in north Northumberland; at present it is almost impossible to get a train from Alnmouth to Berwick or Dunbar, and it is impossible to travel to North Berwick without going via Edinburgh.
