They look awesome now, but there is still some more work to be done on them to finish them:
- They need lettering and numbering
. 56 x large '3's on the doors
. 2 x 'Guard' on the Guards brake
. 8 x LNER on the coach sides
. 4 x small '1'
. 4 x small '2'
. 4 x small '3'
. 20 x small '4'
. 16 x small '6'
. 32 x small '8'
. 2 x very large '74' on the ends
- Then they need some more coats of varnish
- Internally they need picture frames to be made and fitted (that's 168)
- The roof does need repainting
- The wheels need painting
The NNR is to move them from their storage shed into the carriage workshops for the month of October to have this work carried out. Only then will we be happy to say that they're finished. All we need then is the newly restored N2 in GNR green to add to the front!

Re: The Quads are back!
The Quads are in the Workshops at Weybourne now for completion of the outstanding works. Lettering is already being applied. Due to be finshed well in time for the M&GN Mega-Gala at the end of February : http://www.nnrailway.co.uk/steam_gala.htm

Re: The Quads are back!
The Quads are very nearly finsihed.
The lettering is on, it's been a mamoth task taking nearly a month. The roofs have been repainted, the wheels painted brown with white tyres, the picture frames for the compartments made and fitted (336 of them!), the posters for same have been designed, printed (using some 1924 originals as the basis) and fitted, internal safety notices designed, printed and fitted, and an original set of roller blinds fitted in the brake end sides. Hundreds of other finished tidying taks have been undertaken that means when the set appears at the Gala of the 27th/29th Feb & 1st/7th/8th of March it will be as close to its mid-1920s condition as we can make it.
Further pictures here: http://www.nnrailway.co.uk/news.htm
During the gala there are a number of times when it will be hauled by LNER apple green B1 1306 'Mayflower'.
When I get some pictures of the finished product I'll post them on here.

Re: The Quads are back!
The Quads are finished.
They will be used again at the mega Steam Gala to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the closure of the M&GN on Feb 27th/28th and March 1st/7th/8th.
Also, making its debut, at the event will be M&GN Third no. 129 (ex-GNR) that can be seen on the right.
The completed compartment with picture frames and replica maps, posters, information sheets.

Re: The Quads are back!
Here's a photo of the numbering to show the detail. TBH, photos don't do the the quads justice. M&GN 129 has been done to the equally stunning standard.

They will still be here when you get back, Malcolm - unless some smarty has convinced everybody that the LMS system was more efficient and they are turned out in maroon painted livery (but not quite adhering to the varnish) Free ride on the GN saloon on the Bluebell when you do get back, mind - for posting so many lovely pics ):Malcolm wrote:Absolutely, bloody marvellous job.
