Kirby Moorside station

Most of the Kirkby Moorside NER station buildings have been razed to the ground in the last week. The attatched photograph, taken today, is a poignant contrast to the well known view with the BTP tank in the platform. The buildings weren't listed, and listing was apparently refused by English Heritage because, according to the LPA spokesman, the station wasn't "characterful" enough. I feel, and I'm sure that many will agree, that that was a very strange decision.

Have a look at the excellent photos on the relevant SuBrit page:

A sad day.

What a terrible shame. This country is run by vandals.
Here's my own photo C. 31.5.1978. Note the NER enamel nameboard lying on the platform.

I drove through Kirbymoorside today. And noticed what was going on. Shame another relic has gone.
