LNER Carriages - Noodle Books Reprint

Post by 65447 »

Kevin Robertson (Noodle Books) has confirmed to me that the Reprint of this much sought-after tome is now available in paperback at £19-95, and can be ordered direct from him: http://www.kevinrobertsonbooks.co.uk/product/view/1979

I saw a reference to this somewhere else this week, and wondered if it was any good. Sounds like it is. Definitely an area without many in-print books.

Unfortunately the "Add to Basket" link is broken on the website. Looks like it might be a stray '#' character?

I understand it's a straight reprint of the Atlantic edition of Michael Harris' book, but with paperback rather than hard covers and 'reprint' on the front (to avoid fleabayers and the like misrepresenting it as an original). If you ain't already got a copy, you gotta get yerself one...

The error with the 'add to basket' function has been passed on.

I found that if you go to the "new items" page the relevant add-to-basket button works.

I've made a note and will probably order it later in the month along with a couple more Yeadon's (the end is within sight!)

I saw this on the Geoff Gamble book stall at the St Albans exhibtion earlier in the month, it looked like a straight reprint with soft covers.

There have been some protests at the level of discounting. It doesn't help the smaller independents - retailers, wholesalers, publishers or authors - when Amazon puts new books out at 30% discount. I appreciate customers want to save money, but if they don't support local and specialist shops, these will not survive. These are the places that can offer a personal service, whether it's mailing orders out to 'exotic' places such as Australia, or advising on subject matter, or just being places to go and browse at leisure.

Bookshops are struggling at the moment, we've lost several in the last year just in our corner of Yorkshire. And I don't really need to mention Borders and Waterstones, do I? With publishers, Ian Allan is in severe difficulties, they should avoid receivership but it's going to be a painful and embarrassing year for them and they'll probably lose several authors. Other publishers are also feeling the pinch, some more than others. They may sell to Amazon in the short term as they are desperate for the money, even though it cuts their percentage, whether they will do so when the economic situation improves, at least in some cases this is unlikely. Many of the specialist publishers are currently having a hard think about their distribution and marketing. And no, I'm not going to mention names, I was told in confidence!

(If Noodle won't post to Australia, pm me Mark, we do and will).

Finally got my copy of this book. I have a question:
Is there a similar style book for NER carriages?

I am specifically interested in the corridor sets for the Newcastle - Liverpool expresses, especially the sets that included the 12 wheeled, composite Dining/Kitchen Cars built to diagram 166.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The only book I have is Volume 2 of the NER Record. I assume you already have that...

What era? The NER sets lasted well into the LNER for this service and others. Some were turn and turn about with 'foreign' stock. The NERA Carriage Roster reprint for May 1932 ufn could help. In general the North Eastern Railway had very few corridor, with vestibule, coaches. The ECJS and GN/NE covered main line rosters.
