Post by Rlangham »

One of two Y7's preserved, 68088, formerly at the Great Central Railway Nottingham, recently steamed at the North Norfolk Railway, it'll be finished in LNER Black as 8088 with 'NE' on the tanks and will spend at least three years at Beamish at the restored Rowley railway station

Good news! And the Middleton's Y7 was being actively worked on, so soon both should be in steam.

The Y7 is complete (as LNER 985) and ready to go on its travels. By the end of next week it should be back in NER territory at Beamish

Its looking good, well done to everybody concerned. I am looking forward to seeing it.
One thing; its a shame it wasn't 68089 - it would have looked even better standing in the bay at Chathill with a couple of delapidated ex GER 6 wheelers behind it.......

The NNR not doing the J21 was nothing to do with the NNR's ability to do the job. Basically, no one was prepared to fund the work, neither the owners nor funding groups came forward with a penny. In a stark ecconomic world, No money = No progress. If the funding had been there the J21 would have been following the Y7 through the workshops at Weybourne. Even now the LHCS, despite strenious attempts, are struggling to get any funds to get the job started, even the HLF are reluctant to contribute to it. If someone has a spare £500k+ that they don't need this engine could do with it, if not it will remain a pile of parts. It should never have been sent to the Flour Mill by Beamish to be dismantled, but that was all done on the impetus provided by Steam Railway back in 2002. A change of editor and different pet project (70013) meant that SR's promotion of the project died.
