Only through Steam Railway, though it's been on the cards for a while. Well done Steve Davies and his team. That's a great way to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the 126mph run. :D

Strange how the NRM's own Twitter feed doesn't mention anything - just the usual Wizard Week and Steamfest tweets of the past few days.

Or, you could just have an hour or so in conversation with my Dad, and it would be far cheaper - just a pint of Sam Smiths should do it.

He insists that he saw 100 named LNER locos before Sep 1939, although I am never really sure there were 100 with names, but I am probably wrong.

Easily, before 1939.... 79 A1/3s and 35 A4s, plus the Hunt/Shires, footballers/Sandringhams and that doesn't even start on the pregrouping classes. He must have travelled a bit, or lived somewhere on the ECML, to see that many, though.

Yes, it was only a 5 mile cycle ride for him to Essendine, which is where he did most of his spotting.

Unfortunately, when he was away in the RAF his mother took the opportunity to throw all his notes away.

Can anyone confirm or deny this story?
Hi brsince78,
yes, I can now confirm that this exciting project is going to happen. It has been in the pipeline since early last year and though everyone agreed in principal, there were a lot of boxes that needed ticking before it could go ahead. All the bases are now covered and you guys can look forward to a once in a lifetime spectacle, a fitting tribute to the world record holder.

While nobody is looking is it worth getting the two overseas's A4's and giving them a bit of love and attention and making them look less like a mainline/Dapol 00 kit with painted motion etc?

I think they need to find the sponsors first!

Indeed Richard. But things are looking positive on all fronts. I would like to elaborate but for the moment need to be discreet. I will certainly be in York for the opening event!

Surely the NRM could pre-sell tickets for a series of "special viewings" to assist raise funds?

Special viewings? how about 'Drive one of the three operational A4's at the NRM'

Now THAT would bring in a lot of funds :D

With all the work involved in bringing all 6 together, I just hope that the most will be made of the unique opportunity.

As clearly 3 of the engines are "revenue earning" I assume there will be limits to the amounts of time all 6 will be together.
