All 6 A4's to be reunited.

Post by kieranhardy »

According to heritage railway all 6 A4's will take part in a special lineup in 2013 in a probably never to be repeated event at the NRM for the 75th anniversary of Mallards speed record.

First reaction was 'yes I'd like to see that happen...' after further reflection I think there are other projects the money could be spent on. One or two more A4s in the UK - however much we love them -is not going to create that much of a stir to spark up the scene, especially if three of them are merely static exhibits.

Be nice to see. Very nice to see.

D'ya think we could sneak overhauls so all 6 could steam, then find someone with a jumper big enough to hide a pair of A4s? Should be plenty of people with recent experience in London.

Sounds like an appropriate idea to me, afterall, what better way is there to celebrate Mallards achievement.

Then when its all over, use one of the A4's to build another A3....! :P

Nice to see that both A4s no.60008 & no.60010 in the U.S. & Canada respectively have been kept in there 'last working' livery British Railways green rather then the 'bad' habit of keep re-painting steam locomotives & diesels in different liveries for different periods in there service career every few months like they do in 'theme park' UK

Eisenhower is not in last working livery but a strange interpretation of it. bluish green and painted silver con rods - it is a bit of a jarring sight, although kept undercover in a good environment unlike many US 'preserved' locomotives.

I'm currently on holiday so I have not kept on top of things, but it does look like reporting of what is just a rumour as 'fact' by a magazine. Those wishing for a meeting of the six, should wait until the NRM starts circulating the begging bowl - I have my doubts as to whether they ever will.

Yes, they used to keep it in the storage shed, habitually pooped on by birds and such!

I don't think 60008 would be shipped out for this event, but if it were, would any of you over there take action on restoring it "your way"?

An A4 isn't much of an A4 without that chimney. Looks more like a railcar with giant wheels.

Steam Railway is reporting (via Twitter) that the NRM has announced earlier today that...... "agreement has been reached to bring the two 'A4s' home from the USA and Canada for a stay in 2013."

Can anyone confirm or deny this story?
