Ay up!
I was thinking Somerset and Dorset but the "other" S & D would work just as well.

Re: All 6 A4's to be reunited.
Went past the NRM yard yesterday afternoon and there was an 08-looking shunter parked - all black, no number - so that maybe the 09 you mention?
There was also a 66 coupled to a Mk 1, 'Prince William' (47-whatever-it-is) and Britannia with a white cab roof; has it just done a 'Royal', or is it lined up for one?

70000 should have left the NRM by now, as she has a railtour on March 3rd

OK, I'm really cheesed off with the news re the "Fab Four" event at the NRM, but now I question whether the NRM can deliver this one either!

That would be 13079 http://www.nrm.org.uk/OurCollection/Loc ... All&ipp=12 .jwealleans wrote:Went past the NRM yard yesterday afternoon and there was an 08-looking shunter parked - all black, no number - so that maybe the 09 you mention?
If you search the collection it is the only 08 mentioned so this must be the exhibit loco and I was wrong.
Google brought up a photo of it looking very sorry for itself a couple of years ago before it was restored.
The April Railways Illustrated reports that 08911 Matey was returned by road on 24th January.
So this and 09017 are the working locos.

I read somewhere that 70000 was supposed to be travelling light engine to Carlise on 26/02/12AndyG wrote:Which was steam-hauled from Yorkblackout60800 wrote:70000 should have left the NRM by now, as she has a railtour on March 3rd

Re: All 6 A4's to be reunited.
60008 was sold at the end of steam. 60010 was effectively abandoned (I think at Darlington) and was spruced up at crewe and sold to Canada. Buying them back is totally out of the question. The two museums that own them would never sell them, even though both (especially 60010) have been neglected over the years.

Re: All 6 A4's to be reunited.
Not wanting to nit-pick overly, I think both were actually gifted to their respective countries rather than sold.
I also think it's rather unseemly to suggest we should have them back because we don't think they're looking after them as they should. We have 4 A4s already. If we have to repatriate something, go and get an O4. I'm sure the NYMR would love one. Or put the money towards repairing one of the LNER locos we have here already.

Re: All 6 A4's to be reunited.
^ Agreed. Maybe 60010 is not in the nick we'd all like to see her (silver painted rods an' all - yech!), but as long as she's kept presentable, and I've no reason to doubt that will be the case, then the current owners can do as they will. It's not as if the Canadian museum has any intention of ever getting her in steam again. She's still a fine lookin' gal, even as a static display. If I wasn't 1700 miles away, I'd love to pop in and have a look.
Re: All 6 A4's to be reunited.
When i was at both Green Bay (1991) and Montreal (2001) i ,had long chats with volunteers at both sites, despite the fact that the Green Bay is touted at the 'National' railway museum and the Montreal site is the 'Canadian' railway museum, neither have any government or official support and rely entirely on donations, and both were gagging for cash at that time which may explain the fact that very little at each site is capable of running and Montreal has the air of Barry. So even though the 'official' word is never. I would hazard a guess that if someone VERY rich were to offer Green Bay a working S160 and a big wedge say 3m dollars No. 8 would be winging its way over here tomorrow. What sweetener could make the Montreal mob shift i do not know , perhaps the same amount of cash and an offer to get one of their locos back in steam. Plus offer the incentive of free tickets to the first railtour of both locos. ie MHR-SVR N0.8 oneway and No 10 the other. They colud have a raffle, include air fare as well. All in my dreams of course, but with the euros going for 60mill i think 10m should cover it all
So thats my promise if i win

Re: All 6 A4's to be reunited.
If I ever win the lottery the fist port of call will be the NRM. I'll give them the money to restore 4771, 4468 and 506. After that I'd get the two A4's repatriated and put the rest of the money to NELPG, the VTTST and the NYMR

It would be interesting to know if Wikipedia is correct:
"To move to the National Railway Museum, York, United Kingdom, on a three-year loan in late 2012."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Railroad_Museum
Three years!!
