In 1948 after the borders floods, locos to have any chance of making a nonstop run had to ensure that maximum water was taken at Lucker or they were forced to take a drink elsewhere.
Boris quite correctly states the number of troughs so for a nonstop we will have to run a mixed train of bogie tanks and a couple of coaches since diesels went over to ETH they did away with the old troughs.

P.S.Can you imagine an A4 at speed under the wires trying to pick up?
