As a footy hater, I'd be happier if a Country House name was chosen meself.

A publicity stunt?
How about "Wallet Castle", then? Or "Fortress Wallet"?

A Sandringham is being built by the "other half" of the original group.

You pays your money and makes your choice.

Regardless of name or number I'd love to see a Gresley B17. Handsome locomotive class and to be frank, it's only a number and numberplate, which can be changed to suit.

Regardless of being a football fan or not, (and I think it is an inspired choice of name if it can tap into the money associated with Man Utd), I would just be happy to see a B17 built and another gap in preservation filled. :)

Please, not Fortress Wallet! A Lancashire Wallet is even worse than a Yorkshire Wallet!

Believe me, I have the scars. In a place into which mere humans should never pry.....

As a Sunderland fan i rather like the Essex Regiment as a choice of name, a nice subtle dig at our neighbours.

Thought that was Notts County - the Magpies?
And it'd be no use expecting any funds to be forthcoming from Man Utd and the Glazers - they're mortgaged upto the hilt. In fact if you let that family anywhere near anything with Manchester United on it they'd probably use it to 'service the debt' as they say....

People will pay for things they are passionate about.

As a Charlton fan I've been there, got the T-Shirt, even at the age of 5 years old was clearing out rubbish with my Dad from the derelict Valley in the early 90s. 30 minutes from oblivion, and a group of talented, passionate people saved a football club.

However, as with any cause, charitable, recreational or not, people will choose to give money to things they feel passionately about.

Hence why I've sent some money the way of Darlington F.C. in the last few weeks.

You do not have to give money to anything mutually exclusive of donating similar amounts elsewhere.

Whatever name theB17 Group they give their engine. Just build one. Don't dissipate the available resources. I'd love to see all these new builds succeed but only one has so far steamed.

I am involved with the B17 Steam Locomotive Trust ( unconnected with the NBLG effort) a registered Charity

There were plans once to build two B17, One working and one as a 'dummy'

This is not now the case as ,as you can see, there is a 'splinter' group.
However, we had the inaugaral meeting of the Trust on Sat, and i can assure the list that names have not yet been finalised.
In fact although i too enjoy my football, i would not want to see the loco run, permanantly, as a current team. as it might elicit, support from the supporters, it would alienate the rest of the football community, and this goes for Arsenal, Spurs West Ham or even a new name, say Chelsea.
It could however be run under different names on specific days at heritage sites, but this is so long in the future
A web site is under construction and as soon as we get it up and running i will update the list.
Oh we have a start inthat wehave a GE tender as well as a LNER GS one, so everyone can be pleased with whatever type is run

Watch this space!!
