LNER Returnees

Post by Norfolkman »

LNER B12/3 8572 and J15 7564 are due to make their debut on the 9th of March at the North Norfolk Railway. The long running overhaul of 8572 is nearing completion at Ian Riley's works in Bury and is due to be returned to Norfolk in early March, Meanwhile J15 65462 was given a boiler ticket extension following its expiry last October, so the loco is being repainted and lettered as LNER 7564. The J15 will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2012. It is now expected to be withdrawn at the end of the 2012 season for its overhaul. Both these locos will look superb at the head of the railway's varnished teak Quad Art set and LNER BY Pigeon van.

52D, this has no link to the J21 other than that the J21 resided on the NNR whilst its owners tried to set up a restoration plan for it. Sadly, no agreement was reached to restore the J21 on or for the NNR so it moved back up to the North East under the care of the LHCT. http://www.lclt.org.uk/

The J15 is still due a £200k overhaul when the boiler ticket expires at the end of 2012 so its next in the queue for funds after the B12. After that it's WD 2-10-0 90775's turn for some TLC and lots more £100ks.

Re. my first post, the usual caveat about loco availability applies should there be a problem.

SO looking forward to the return of 8572. Not only was a model of the loco my first, which inevitably has huge sentimental value, but it's just SUCH A HANDSOME ENGINE! :D :D

I don't know whether this is fair comment, but have the railway press been rather disinterested in the B12 over the years? It's just an impression I have. :(

To put it frankly, before this thread I didn't even know a B12 had survived
I hope that answers your question :)

I think you'll find that they'll be a little more interested this time round. The NNR has come a very long way since she returned to steam last time in 1995.

Steve

The picture is of her back in 1996 not long after her first overhaul in preservation.

Thanks for posting the picture Norfolkman! :D :D

I dragged the family over from Leicestershire to see her on her return to steam. She looked stunning in her apple green livery. :D

I totally accept it's personal preference, and I acknowledge that my opinion is worth no more than the next person's, but I'm heartily tired of this pressure for locos being painted in GWR/BR green or BR lined black. The fact that 8572 is returning in all her apple green glory is just marvellous! I will be over to see her at the very first opportunity.

Wouldn't it be good if she could join her LNER cousins at Barrow Hill? 8) 8) 8)

On the note of Barrow Hill, does anyone know when 4468 and 4771 will be moving down to Barrow Hill for the event?
I'm planning a trip to the NRM on the 25th Feb, that's all.

Hey blackout! Check out the Barrow Hill web-site for contact details.

I am sure that if you contact them they will give you what information they can. When we have guest engines for open days at Tyseley, they normally arrive a week or so before, but a lot depends on whether they arrive by rail or road.

I can't see the NRM parting with its star attraction much before the event.

Thanks for the info :) I am hoping to attend to fab four event. I'm going to York with a group of friends on the 25th for my birthday, and I'd be devastated if Mallard and Green Arrow weren't there. I'll contact Barrow Hill about it tomorrow.

Ay up!

It is a sad fact that the railway press is GWR dominated and has been for a number of years.

God What Rubbish!
