Tynemouth Station Restoration

The on-going restoration of the canopies and roof at Tynemouth has nearly finished, I was down there a couple of weeks ago and it is looking good.

At first glance I thought that was a Midland Railway station.

Wonderful and nice to see that someone is now appreciating heritage.

Now, surely there's some more lovely old stations needing a similar treatment?

BTW notice that in the 1980 shot half the roof is covered in Asbestos which considered similar to Plutonium nowadays hence it's removal.

Its looking as good as new, its just a shame that there aren't any proper trains any more, I know the Metro provides an excellent service but wouldn't it be nice with a B1 sitting in the bay with an excursion from Hawick or Gala like they used to have!

Thanks. I am specifically interested in excursion traffic (i.e. beyond the loop and therefore non-electric) because I am intrigued to know how (and how much) the bay platforms were actually used.

I seriously doubt that the bay platforms would have been much used for excursion trains. If the south end ones were so used they would need crossovers to release the engines and I think they would mostly be used for the Riverside trains.
If an excursion came from the Newcastle direction I think it is more likely it would run through to Monkseaton and be stabled in the extensive carriage sidings there.
