If it can't be the nation's favourite engine Flying Scotsman or perhaps Tornado, and it can't be the fastest Mallard, then as I said before Britannia seems the obvious choice.
What is the relevance of 46115? None.
Another thought: last time we hosted the Olympics was I believe 1948, is there a mainline certified loco built in 1948?
While I agree Britannia would have been a smart choice, any big impressive steam locomotive is plenty symbolic IMHO. I understand not everyone agrees with this, but I feel we should be able to post our own views without getting too vitriolic at one another.

Would you rather see the torch carried in this?

Is someone getting vitriolic? We're just a bunch of enthusiasts who are passing opinions that will have no bearing at all on what happens!
I actually quite like your idea of the Reliant Robin, but it would have to be the one from "Only Fools and Horses" - the world might like the little joke!

Oh no, I wasn't trying to imply the discussion was getting too vitriolic already. I know everyone here would have liked 4472 to take the Olympic Train (I thought it'd be good, too) but I just felt that any (preferably big and impressive) British steam locomotive, regardless of origin and claims-to-fame, would be good enough to "take the honors". I was concerned about getting slammed for that view! Apologies..
That "Robin" was from a certain Top Gear episode and I'm sorry to say it probably wouldn't be able to run again! It is a funny little car, no doubt. It is a shame it wasn't the best for stability.
All in all, I do hope 46115 does well on this run, or whichever locomotive ultimately ends up taking the "honors". As long as it's British steam , that's all that matters I think.
If we're using the Only Fools and Horses Reliant, it'd have to have an overdose of Redex down the bores to produce vast clouds of white smoke from the exhaust!
Why not Bittern? After all, it doesn't look unlike a certain 4468 - now THAT's what I call national pride!
If I ain't here, I'm in Bilston, scoffing decent chips at last!!!!
tut, tut guys looks like you lot cant tell 't differance between a robin reliant or a reliant robin , look again , thats right its a rialto , as for del boys regal thats anolther tail , mind you he'd have been better of with a regent , so if yer dont know better just stick with robin reliant and show your ignarance.
mr B ... ancient tamworth proverb "a bird in the hand is worth two in the sky"
Bittern with a double tender with 4468 mallard as name and number mallard with a double tender
Let's put a dynomometer car with it aswell with a full rake of teaks
(WHAT A SIGHT THAT WOULD BE)
It'd need a Junilee to push it with any more than 5 coaches on today's railway. Yes, I know that they took 8 to Morecambe in the 1950s but life was a lot slower then.
Hmm. The Compound and a red Jubilee.

any guesses yet
And then they were narrated by two American men later on.
But to deviate that matter further, it really began with a small blue 4-4-0 tender engine.
