From the second link: Organizers are discussing using one of the A4s in an attempt to break the old record

Well I don't think anyone is stupid enough to try that. 100mph would be too big a push as it is.

EDIT: Anyway, I think that as soon as 60008 gets here we should return her to garter blue and Golden Shuttle

Photos - Notice the hatch openings along the casing appear to be taped. (?)

Then starts the 2,000 mile journey to Halifax in Nova Scotia to pick up another train headed for England, the Diminutive Canada.
Bad phone line? Auto-corrrect? Perhaps 'Owd Sweedy' might like to comment on the undertones of that faux pas?

DoC will be in garter blue complete with original whistle and bell. The museum has the bell, and will be paying for the repaint/1930s restoration. I assume the NRM will be performing this for them.

The NRM are also repainting Dwight in "BR Green" (one assumes a more authentic shade).

LOL. Priceless! Perhaps it got left out in the rain last night and has shrunk ? :D

Cheers,
Owd Sweedy.

Hi Wootang, as Richard says it will be in LNER Garter blue with the original Bell, but with a replacement CPR chime whistle, of the same 1930's vintage, (from the CRHA collection). Unless of course the original one, which was stolen, reappears (dream on).
Dwight will be painted at York and D of C will have the cosmetic restoration work done at Shildon.

Cheers,
Owd Sweedy.

None of that, just sloppy writing. The author couldn't even spell Bob Gwynne's name correctly twice within the space of six lines. Oh, and nobody employes proofreaders nowadays. Add in the well-known, and let's be kind here, average American joe's knowledge of things Canadian, and what you get is that piece of junk journalism paraded for all to see.

Thanks for the information regarding liveries. With 60008 to be painted green now (instead of bleen), I wonder if it will be displayed behind the two coaches (of which it never hauled in service) or displayed differently.

Speling iz nu langar improtent! It really is a shame, isn't it? The same story was published on other local sites multiple times with the same mistakes - the source is likely one of the Green Bay news sites as they're all not far from the museum. I am sorry to say many of these writers are not too keen on being corrected - hence the errors usually stay.

Here's hoping the move goes well for 60008, I understand getting it out of the display shed won't be an easy task (as described in the news article).

G'Day Gents

Looking forward to all the pics that might come through to us.

I wonder, if a OO scale model of 60008 was sent back at the end of the visit to the UK, and an apologetic note, saying that it had shrunk, with all the rain, I wonder if anyone would notice

Nah, just attach the real DoC nameplates to a full size cardboard cut out, send that back and no one will notice the difference.

At least the jacking of the loco and tender will be undercover.
I had to do a similar job at Barry in 1981-2 when we moved 44123 sideways to get it out of the scrap yard.
22 lifts and slews alone for the tender using 4 slewing jacks.

Interesting story about 44123. I, too, am pleased the jacking will be done under cover.

It seems the process has begun! New report here.
