Yes, I am sure the debts are going down, but don't forget the unplanned boiler rectification work and the fact the West Coast Railways decided they would not run Tornado last year, (despite originally agreeing to do so), which meant the A1 Trust had to reschedule a large amount of the year.

Also I am sure that the Trust is prudently putting money on one side from each trip, a sort of sinking fund, so that the next heavy overhaul can be paid for.

I know from experience that there will be very little left over.

I was the original accountant/book-keeper/membership administrator for the A1 Trust in the early years before the work became too much with a young family, but I still keep in touch with several of the directors of the Trust - you won't find a more dedicated bunch of people.

Currently I'm proud to be a Director of Tyseley Locomotive Works so I have a good handle on loco overhaul costs.

SMOGGY - From the noxious vapours that used to emit from certain establishments on Teeside, currently in vogue as an epithet for a native of Middlesbro.

Mrb a SLAGGY ISLANDER - A person who hails from a certain sub district of the above.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

G'Day Gents

Ah, but to be a Cockney, you have to be born within the sound of Bow Bells. Us 'Geezers' from 'Norf Lundun' we're part of the 'Ally Pally' mob  !!!!

My thanks to you kind gentlemen for enlightening an ignorant Midlander! :D

These local terms are really interesting - reminds me a bit of all the unusual words that used to feature in "Call My Bluff" - now I'm dating myself!

Now that the true cockney has all but disappeared, those that live in the general area of East London and Essex/North Kent tend to be called 'Estuary'. For an idea of their ethnicity and dialect have a look at TOWIE.

Ay up!

I have heard monkey hanger for a resident of Middlesborough as well.

The story is that a German cruiser was sunk off Middlesborough during WW1. The only survivor to make it ashore was the ship's mascot, a spider monkey dressed in a German sailor's uniform. When it wouldn't answer questions, the hanged it from a lamp post.
If I ain't here, I'm in Bilston, scoffing decent chips at last!!!!

Close BB, but it was Hartlepool, and a French ship during the Napoleonic wars IIRC.
Cheers,
