POSSIBLE CLOSURE OF NRM

On local Yorkshire news tonight (BBC Look North & ITV Calender) it was reported that the National Railway Museum may close due to the goverment withdrawing its funding. It said that it may have to close either the NRM or The National Media Museum in Bradford due to cutbacks in the funding of National Museums, of course there was no mention of closing any Museum's in the south of the Country!
BBC Look North did mention that whilst the NMM in Bradford had seen a drop in visitors over the last couple of years the NRM had seen a big rise in its attendances which I hope will help in keeping it open. They also visited the NRM and on asking visitors what they thought of what may happen all said they would not mind having to pay if it would help keep it open.

Was in the York area mid week, this was discussed on the local Radio,
seems that they are discussing an entry free for the NRM ,present attendance is around 1 million per year, but it was found by the people associated with it that the last time this was tried in 1982 attendance dropped by 2/3rds!

Further it said that as the NRM is a great draw for the whole area of Yorkshire the moors etc
the local tourist industry would be badly effected.
