Andy Rush RIP

I regret to inform you that fellow forum member Andy Rush has passed away; the announcement coming from the GER Society Yahoo! Group.

Andy was a fount of knowledge concerning railway operation, having worked in various Control Offices on the E and NE Regions during his career, and always willing to provide substantive answers and accurate information. He was also a member of the editorial panel for the GERS Journal and his contributions both there and here will be sorely missed.

So long Andy, and thanks for all your help and advice over the years.

News came to me this morning and I'm still trying to take it in. I was expecting to see him at the Test match on Monday. He will be very sorely missed in many places and groups.

I didn't know him personally, but had interchanged the odd messages, and greatly admired his knowledge on wagon and train formations.

Andy worked at RfD when I knew him through the 90's, and I had only recently got back in touch, through this forum. Apart from his infrastructure and operating skills he had a genius for creating amusing anagrams of colleagues' names and used his own - Nurse W Hard - in the last PM he sent me.
I am shocked by the sudden-ness; a mutual friend saw him at a train planners' reunion at York at the beginning of June. However, I had noticed that he remained silent on threads that I expected him to be able to contribute to over the last month or so.
All that knowledge lost.
Don't feel old but so many of my former B.R. colleagues of my generation that I've known, many since our youth, have passed on or are seriously ill. And I miss them!!

Very much so : A great and irreplaceable loss indeed.
We met but few times, and corresponded only a little more. But he was always willing, and normally able, to come up with, no end of historical dates and detail, as borne out in many threads amongst these forums, and at GNRS meetings, at one of which (St.Neots) we had a brief but illuminating chat barely a few weeks ago.

Andy never operated my Ely North Junction but did visit many times. Every word he said about the passing trains was priceless. To get a controller's point of view has been a real privilege. Another privilege for me was to be able to help him write an article about Whitemoor Junction for the GE society. I will miss the fish and chips in St Neots after operating his railway. The distant is off Andy.

Andy's funeral will be on Friday 23rd August 2013 at 10am, Bedford Crematorium, Norse Road, Bedford.
