Is it attending next weekends Mallard event at Grantham Station? The initial plan of the event showed a coach not type assumed it may have been of GNR origin

It is indeed attending next weeks event. 641 should be a new, if temporary landmark on the ECML from Tuesday.swhite01 wrote:Is it attending next weekends Mallard event at Grantham Station? The initial plan of the event showed a coach not type assumed it may have been of GNR origin

Has anybody seen if 641 has arrived at Grantham yet? It left Pickering around 4pm yesterday.
It is due to be delivered today?

Do I detect a spot of separation anxiety?

Re: Return to Grantham (for Gresley buffet 641)
The organisers expected around 6000 visitors over the weekend, reports from LNERCA members at the event report that 7000 attended on the Saturday alone! Four volunteers were working flat out in 641, which I suspect was the busiest cafe in Grantham today. So much so that the water tanks, which had been filled before leaving the NYMR, were completely exhausted. I believe they were hoping to recruit the fire brigade to refill the coach.

Even more on Sunday, I believe - ca. 9000. The fire brigade did oblige by refilling the tanks, but it wasn't enough - they ran dry again by about 4.30 on Sunday! The visit provided good publicity and income for both the LNERCA and the NYMR and the organizers were so pleased they are thinking of doing something similar in the future - maybe when Flying Scotsman is finished there will be an opportunity?

That would be great for Grantham again. A timely reminder that Flying Scotsman spent a short time stabled in the Up Sidings (adjacent to the loading dock) whilst being transferred to Market Overton in the early 70's. I have a photo at home i'll post when i can.60044 wrote:Even more on Sunday, I believe - ca. 9000.
