GER F5 No. 789 - New build project.

Post by kieranhardy »

Apologies if there is already a thread on this locomotive, not another project appearing but the one that was created in 2000.

It was announced a few days ago that the trust will relocate from Mangapps to Tyseley by the end of the month.

Quote from the website:
The Holden F5 Steam Locomotive Trust is to relocate from Mangapps Railway Museum to Tyseley Locomotive Works at the end of January 2014 subject to the availability of transport. The move to Tyseley marks the beginning of the engineering phase of the project under the expert guidance of Tyseley’s Chief Engineer Bob Meanley.
It has also been decided that rather have the locomotive out shopped in BR black (as No. 67218) she will instead be out shopped in GER blue as No. 789.

See here for Heritage Railway article: http://holdenf5.co.uk/wp-content/upload ... an0025.jpg

Tyseley is also currently the home of another high profile new build project, Patriot No. 45551 'The Unknown Warrior' which arrived in November 2013:

Again, apologies if there is already a topic, if there is then feel free to merge it with an existing one.

Hopefully it will help them in the long run being at a place like Tyseley. Not only for the expertise in engineering there but also the big publicity they would gain at the very popular open days.

Great news - be nice to see it in a more attractive pre-grouping livery too. Will this be the first 2-4-2T running in preservation? Only other preserved one I can think of is the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway 1008 which is at the NRM

I can't think of another. GER blue is a good shade - much better than black...

I know it's been mentioned before but I do wonder if we're seeing more interest in pre Grouping railways compared to BR from the 50s & 60s. Or could it be a view that with new builds, it's about the same level of difficulty to build a pre Grouping loco than (say) a BR standard?

Good morning all
Will the new F5 work the heritage Ongar line?
I am pleased that a small pre-grouping loco has been chosen for a newbuild.

I believe that would be the eventual aim.

The group moved to Tyseley on the 28th January. Photos of this move can be found here:
