Glad to hear that as it suggests the method is consistently viable. I have another K3 chassis to treat for the same ailment, for application to a rather different purpose this time....

Well, after a long time with no modelling mojo to speak of, I was minding my own business when suddenly I go the urge to cut, glue, solder, paint & generally start making a mess again.

I've mostly been making a start on my Fort William layout, but yesterday I just fancied starting the resin K2 kit I bought from Graeme King many moons ago. So here is the (soon to be christened) 'Loch Lomond'. The resin kit went together very nicely with a 'Scottish' cab I pinched from an unbuilt nucast K2 kit


Posing with a nucast tender for now after a productive Sunday & I built up courage for the valve gear mods.

By the way if anyone has any spare K2 side window cabs lying around I could use at least 2 to save me having to scratchbuild!

Good to see your back into it Will. K2 looking good. Do you think you'll have a go at putting it in forward gear and fix Bachmann's dogs breakfast effort. ( Unless your planning on running it in reverse a lot).

After a waft of Halfords' finest primer. A few bits of tidying up to attend to but not bad.

A couple of fish vans been constructed from a couple of Nucast 12ft wheelbase kits bought from the Preston show in March. Not much fun compared to the Parkside version to be honest.
The one on the left is built as the instructions with all its frustrations in 12ft form. The next night I furiously attacked the 2nd with a knife & cut it down to the 10ft wheelbase version (more suitable for my era too really). I’ll stick to parkside kits in future I think

Was the battle to build them at least capable of being described as more rewarding than simply putting the kits in the bin or passing them on to somebody else? The results look decent anyway. I had no idea Nu-Cast had ever done those.

I suppose building the all plastic Parkside kits that seem to fall together have made me a bit soft! These have a plastic van body and whitemetal solebars, brakes & assorted undergubbins so it's not quite as simple, but not really too difficult either.
There was a lot of flash to remove & the whitemetal components didn't seem to fit that well, but the metal parts do give them a nice weighty feel.

I think they'll be just fine trundling along in a Train

I built four or five some years ago for the fish train on Thurston. Those came in a box branded 'Cotswold' and you do see them at shows from time to time. If you can get the whitemetal chassis running well then they benefit from the extra weight.
