Now that I have managed to get some Hornby Duck of Gloucester spares methinks a Standard Caprotti 5 and one of the last two LMS Class 5s are on the cards. Not LNER but of course Son of Ivatt was responsible for the development of same! J. F. Harrison said that had the LNER continued, the next development of the A1 would have been Caprotti valve gear!

Yes - I've been waiting for this opportunity as I tried to get some Caprotti bits from a certain kit manufacturer but they would not play ball! I'm going to shortly post Harrisons designs in graphic form on here too!

Looks like a useful little conversion kit could be made available there.....

I've never understood why nobody has attempted it before - Crownline Models in the 1980s did whitemetal kits for the LMS Caprotti variants - all three types could warrant some sort of kit - cylinders nowadays cast in resin! But what about the D49s with rotary cam valve gear too?

It just so happened when I was doing my loco drawings it came out that the Caprotti valve gear on 71000 was almost identical to that on the Standard Fives, so when D of G came out I waited for spares to appear and Presto! The cylinders do need a lot of work as they are quite different from D of G but the valve gear needs little alteration.

I must get back to the LNER and now I have some buffers get my A4 carve ups finished!
