Need a little help, the E1's had wooden buffer beams, overlaid with with steel plate, I would like to follow this in the model world. The question being what's the best way to bond the two together, I'm thinking Epoxy ??????

Terry If I was gluing a piece of brass sheet to a strip of plastic I would probably just use superglue.

Thanks for the reply's, I tried wood to plastic and it worked, I was a bit worried that those two wouldn't stick, but it turned out wonky, so I'll have to take it off again.

Clearly I didn't read the original question properly!

If gluing wood to plastic or wood to brass I would try superglue first up.

Time, I think for an update, the E1 is coming together, I've been doing a bit of experimentation with the Hornby tender dives, I've ground all the detail off of the chassis side (axleboxes etc) and overlayed a bit of plastic instead, with whitemetal axleboxes glued on in the right place, a new body is being built.

The timber bufferbeam has been fitted to the engine and the cutouts have er! been cut out. Piccy time.

Thanks Graeme, I do like to fiddle about and see if I can find a different solution to a problem.

Anyway the E1 is well on it's way to completion, the main thing to do now is the handrails, but seeing that I don't have enough to do both sides it will have wait until I get some more from England, I also have to find where I put the draw-bar

Another loco which i could reasonably justify, Darlington tried them over Stainmore and the were loaned to 52D during a wartime move before ending back at Mildenhall.

Time, I think for an update, having caught up with most of the loco's I was going to build, (there's going to be more) I've gone back to Edgware station buildings that I started years ago, 2012 I think the roofs have finally been finished and the main booking hall has been straightened, with lolly sticks, it had warped due to the heat, we had a couple of exceedingly hot days a few years ago, when the mercury hit 46c, so now it's time to finish it. I still have to fit the gutters, end boards (barge) and chimneys.

I've had an issue with my C12 (brass), after re-wheeling and a new motor, it's still a bit of a rough runner, after removing the body, I decided to give the chassis a run, away it went, I added a couple of coaches, not a problem, as soon as I added the body, back came the problems again, stuttering, poor control, I fitted plastic tape on the inside of the body............no change, so putting the body to one side, the chassis ran perfect again, so I'm building a C12 body, whether there's a short or not, plastic body shouldn't be a problem, I have a couple of Nellie, chassis, so I'll try the brass body on a Nellie chassis, so I'm going to probably end up with 2 x C12's. Can't be bad, 4511 was based at Hitchin in the 1930's for working the Hitchin - Hertford North service.

The C12 body has had the help of a couple of 'Thomas' body's lying about, the tanks are correct size for a C12, once you've cut the extension off, the rest is pretty straight forward.
