John has the layout booked in for Scunthorpe modern image show in May, running in 1966 dieselised guise, well out of my comfort zone with the DCC to contend with too! The next "normal" booking I know of is, I believe, Nottingham March 2014, then I gather Hull November 2014 and Spalding November 2015.

Last weekend at Scunthorpe Modern Image show turned out to be a very enjoyable one - now those ARE words of praise from a grumpy old steam-only man like me. It was a sensibly organised small show run by some very friendly people who deserve hearty congratulation on their efforts. I even found it quite relaxing at times driving the paraffin burners in and out of the station on the funny electric, but I doubt that this is the start of a conversion!
Here are a few "snaps" of Leeds Central, including evidence that one or two real locos eventually sneaked past the DEMU police.

BTH 1 (Class 15) at Leeds, eh? I bet that got the platform enders excited.

Next booking is still, as far as I know, Nottingham next year. Other invitations may appear, who knows?

The question of whether any BTH type 1's ever worked into Leeds did crop up at the weekend oddly enough. I don't know whether any Park Royal railbuses got there either. If it were not for it all being wired up with left handed electricity I'd be arranging for some even odder things to appear without warning.

I can just see the Baldwin turning up with a few of those 40-tonners and a six-wheeled brake. Or the 4-8-2 on the West Riding Limited.

Anything weird or unusual will catch my interest, be it an express or locomotive

I'm also drawn to the commemorative, let's hope Bachmann will produce 6165 Valour.

Incidentally, should anybody wish to invite the layout to a show, please either get in touch with John (35windsorlad), or pencil the details of the invitation lightly on the back of a £20 note and send it to me so that I can pass the info on to John, minus my handling fee of course.......

Time methinks to give this topic a cynical nudge back to the top of the pile, in the hope of making everyone aware of the layout's appearance at Nottingham in just over a week from now, i.e. Saturday 15th / Sunday 16th March. Apart from all of the usual trade, socities, demos and free supply of insults from fellow modellers at this regional show, this year's inclusion of "mini Grantham" too on static display should appeal to we LNER disciples. For those with more exotic tastes in pre-group LNER I believe John Quick is also present with early MS&L Sheffield Bridgehouses.

Now all John still needs to do to Leeds Central to turn it into a real cracker is to get rid of the orange station signs, dark green engines and maroon rolling stock, plus nasty DCC power system, then run beautiful 1930s trains of grass-green, varnished teak, garter blue and so forth........
I keep telling him, but he takes no notice. More of us need to get on at him.

Sadly I won't be there to sign your petition this weekend - but ISTR John has another outing booked later in the year which I do expect to make.... Hull?

Edit - yes, just checked the website and it is on the list for Hull.

Graeme,
I will be in attendance. Robert the Devil mentioned a shunting puzzle on Mini Grantham!
I'll hunt Leeds Central out and say hello.
I've got some shopping to do for none LNER related items (wash my mouth out with soap!)

Leeds Central ? :)
Now I'd travel to see that !

Better than that LMS layout, what's it called again ?
Oh yeah, Liverpool Lime Street.

Lovely model, but only the operators can see what's going on.

Looking forward to rubbing shoulders with Leeds Central - even if there is a bit of a time-warp between there and Grantham in terms of era. Pity as half the trains through Grantham were destined for or originated from Leeds. Working on the diesel-->steam, maroon-->teak, DCC-->DC connecting section as we speak....

Forthcoming exhibition appearances: Newcastle (Nov 2023); York (Easter 2024); Bristol (May 2024)

Can you keep John distracted for long enough to let me rip out the DCC, put the section switches back into use, and remove all of the orange totems? We can soon sling the BR rolling stock in an empty box and put some proper trains on......
