Re: James's workbench
G'day all
Here's an early pic of the chassis that I constructed for the Dean Sidings L1.
The eagle eyed will spot the incorrectly made coupling rods.
It ran quite well with Mashima 1620 with flywheel and High Level Loadhauler Plus 60:1 gearbox. However, the pony truck kept derailing and the chassis parts have since been cannibalised for other project.

Hi earlswood thanks for the picture of your L1/L3 chassis it's given me an idea about making a scratch built chassis over the christmas week it will be occupying my time along with building the j36 my missus bought me for Christmas.
Thanks James

Good morning all
When I rebuild the chassis, I will probably get rid of the swiveling pony truck and replace it with a rigid one with sideplay.

Good evening all
Firstly thank you for the information on the L1/L3 everyone it's nearly done know and I have started on a Pdk J36 and I was wondering has anyone built one if so can you recommend a good motor and gearbox combination and I am not to keen on the recommended option by Pdk.
Thanks James

Good morning all
I haven't built a J36, however I have built several 0-6-0's.
My first choice would be a Mashima 1024 driving through a High Level Roadrunner Plus 54:1 fitted to the rear axle.
As a brass boiler has thinner walls than a white metal boiler, you may be able to squeeze in a Mashima 14/16 series motor.
Another possibility would be an upright motor fitted into the firebox.

Thank earlswood, I thought about a roadrunner gearbox and having you guys confirm that I think that will be my choice.

Good morning all
I prefer using the "Roadrunner Plus" as it can move the motor slightly forward to allow cab detailing, and it had a grub-screw final gear.

Re: James's workbench Hornby hoppers
Morning gents
I have been wondering has there been anyone that has back dated the current range of Hornby BR hoppers if so can anyone recommend a suitable method as I have just acquired 3 but they are to late for the period that I model.
Thank James

Re: James's workbench
I have done a couple scraped the markings off with a scalpel blade ( no 10a) repainted a darker grey and new decals. I have never seen a picture of the steel hoppers in LNER use other than when brand new, therefore only light weathered as they would still be new in LNER days.
Re: James's workbench
Thanks Mick i can have a go at that then.
Thanks james

Re: James's workbench
Thanks Mick the link you sent me was very informative I think I have a plan of action to back date them and convert them to three link coupling that I now use as standard on my unfitted wagons hopefully in the next couple of days I should have made a little bit of progress.
Thanks James

Good evening all
I have just built a parkside dundas kit for the lner 21ton locomotive coal wagon and unfortunately I seem to have misplaced the instructions, so I was wondering can anyone shed some light on the LNER livery for these wagons as there doesn't seem to be much available on line.
Thanks James
