Morning John.
Enjoyed meeting up yesterday and having a pint in the Maltings, got back to work and had a sleep, which was nice.
Thanks for the surprise viewing of your D&S NER clerestory carriage, it is very good, I did like your roof construction method and will nick that idea when I get round to do mine. The electric cable run on the roof must have taken ages to twist into shape, agree you have made a rod for you back with the windows, still it's all part of the s&m fun of model railways.

Another new venture. Do I finish anything....?

A D&S GN 4-wheel Brake Van.

Hand rails on the sides being soldered up first.

The smaller hand rail to the right of the door was soldered by drilling through the sides into the wooden board below and then using this as a jig to solder the cross piece on the flat.

But I should have had something to hold the cross-piece in place for a proper 'jig', luck sufficed this time.

One cannot do a 'Ben Stokes' every time!

Annoyingly clever, isn't it?

Would a simple little blob of blu-tac or a narrow strip of tape holding the short cross-wire in place elevate the idea to the status of "proper jig"?

Atlantic, I had thought of a small shim of wood nailed between the rails, but you are right tape would do the same job.

Cough...Splutter, where's my inhaler, Sunday? I was thinking it might get a run out at Shipley without paint. However Mr Whitwam will have something better.

In true Derek Cross tradition, I must start with a musical quote; Shostakovich Cello Concerto, No.2 I think.

The thing on the left was started before Thatcher was PM. Standard Ok for the time I think, but NOT finished.

GN brake van, NOT finished.

Thrutchley wagon, yes Ok.

I do have WTT copying to do. And also more caring than ever, for K, in these tricky times.

But not to finish something started before 1979! Very sad.

I shall try and do better.

You'll be certain that the wagon on the left won't warp anyway, unless you paint it with something very potent!

Hello John, I'm building this D&S GNR OCT and struggling a bit to understand how the brake rigging goes together under the floor: if it's not too much trouble, could you please post some hi-resolution pictures of what happens underneath?
