60508 Duke of Rothsay

Post by 60526 »

I asked this question on the dark side but it got lost in the clouds by the looks of it. We've looked in quite a few books at photos of 60508 but can't find one which shows where the AWS box was fitted, I'm assured that it did have one late in life. Any help would be much appreciated.

In all probability the AWS box was placed under the driver's seat. Look to see if there is a pipe under the footplate, starting somewhere near the rear of the buffer plank and continuing to the cab. The A3's had a similar arrangement. Hope this helps your quest.

This photo shows the conduit (most clearly visible above the front of the cylinder, running along the valance) so the box is clearly, as the last poster said, in the cab: https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8455/8044 ... c370_b.jpg

And this photo seems to show the scar where the banger plate on the b.beam has been removed, as well as the mounting bracket on the bogie:

It's Duke of RothEsay, by the way.
