Just caught up with this year's releases, and could be quite a good year for Hornby, courtesy of my bank account. Q6 2265 right boiler, right tender, and operated out of Newport Shed (51B), between 1930-44, with the Diagram 50 A boiler fitted in 1938. One ordered today, with the possibility of a second to be renumbered 2237, which had a 50A boiler fitted in 1939, with same tender. B1 61032 Stembok operated out of Stockton Shed (51E), between 1947-59, and Thornaby (51L) and Darlington (51A) thereafter, and another order placed today.
So many thanks Hornby, I wish you well for 2017, and how about a J26/J27 0-6-0 in 2018?
Best wishes

The promo photo of the Q6 looks like the 50A Boiler, they have just stuck a pre war number on the post war LNER version. No Wind Jabber on the Chimney as on the post war version.
Very poor year for the LNER IMHO at the prices it maybe a result for many !!

Hi Mick
various images of Q6 2265 in Yeadon's Volume 23, of the North Eastern 0-8-0s, with 2265 ex-works 22nd December 1938 looking good with its 50A boiler and 4125 self-trimming tender, with tapered coal rails both front and rear. It does show a windjabber, so this can be replicated by the purchasor, or explained by the perennial problem that was encountered, where the windjabber could rot away within the space of a 2 - 3 year period after being fitted. I know that in some cases, e.g. Carlisle, the windjabber was removed totally, so its really down to the purchasor as to what they want to do with this pre-war locomotive.

No problem do what you want. As said before this is no different than the current one,it would appear they haven't changed the Tender type to the other version. There a very few photos of a Q6 in Yeadons's in that condition. Most have the other Tender types and a Wind Jabber.
Save some money and renumber current ones ,as prices will no doubt be higher than the current quoted price, when they appear. There are plenty around for sale around the £100 -£120 price range.
Re: Hornby 2017 range announced
The caption on p49 of Yeadon 23 only states that 2265 was ex-works (with new 50A boiler) on 22nd Dec 1938, proving it to be one of the first so fitted. It is not clear if this was the day when the photo was taken. I only raise this as the photo shows blacked out cab windows as an ARP measure. Doubtless the more learned members of this forum can pin-point the date from which this practice was introduced but 2265 had 5 further visits to works during the war; in March and August 1940, in April 1941, in May 1943 (when presumably it lost the full LNER on the tender) and in March 1945. I only mention this in case anyone at Hornby reading this thread assumes that it had blacked out windows from Dec 1938. It is easier to paint over clear windows if desired than to clean pre-painted ones.Greedy Boards wrote:Hi Mick

Re: Hornby 2017 range announced
Hornby catalogue and website show LNER D16/3 no 8802 with what appears to be a single anti-vacuum valve. From rebuilding to D16/3 in 24/4/1933 it carried boilers with twin valves until 7/2/1938. Thereafter, until it lost its red lining and full 'LNER' in June 1943, it had a single valve. It is tempting to suppose they have just renumbered their model of 8825 in lined black for illustrative purposes but 8825 was a piston valve version and 8802 a slide valve with shallow frames.

Re: Hornby 2017 range announced
The image of D16/3 8802 on the Hornby website is the slide valve version with shallow front frames so Hornby have got this right as a post 7/2/1938 version with the single anti vacuum valve. Hopefully this is how the model will appear although I don't need another one to join my 8825 (now renumbered as 8810) as I still have a brass Crownline kit to build as my 8900 Claud Hamilton. I'll have to keep my hands in my pockets when this model is released!
