Happy New Year all!
As far as I can see no new LNER locomotives, just new versions of existing models.
Perhaps this is good for the wallet!

Personally I'm pleased with the Appleby Iron and steel Co. Ltd. hoppers, and there's two of them!

Good to see there's a third J15, no 7942 to go with previously issued 7510 and 7524, and a prewar liveried Q6.2002EarlMarischal wrote: just new versions of existing models.
No new coaches unless you want Thompson 'teak' suburbans.

Re: Hornby 2017 range announced
Those Appleby coke hoppers might be handy alongside my App-Frod ore hoppers, if only I were modelling a suitable location. Much will depend on whether they get the style and weight of the lettering right, and whether I can persuade myself to pay a small King's ransom for a mass produced RTR four wheeled wagon.
Pre-war livery is all well and good, but no sign yet of a version of the Q6 with the kind of boiler that they almost all had pre-war.

Most subjects, models and techniques covered in this thread are now listed in various categories on page1

Cheap year for me !!!!
Re: Hornby 2017 range announced
I might be tempted by "Gay Crusader" if I can find a straight one at a reasonable price. The transition era B12/3 61556 was one of the locos with the larger variety of Westinghouse Pump and cutouts in the steps - unlike the preserved example upon which the Hornby models have so far been based.

Graeme, I am with you on that Q6 issue.Atlantic 3279 wrote: Pre-war livery is all well and good, but no sign yet of a version of the Q6 with the kind of boiler that they almost all had pre-war.
Perhaps the 'pre-war' era no longer has the pull it once had for modellers? I was brought up on mid 1960s through 1970s modelling magazines, some brilliant modelling was shown alongside the most terrible RTR products.
We now have excellent RTR products. Are we now too worried about the quality of our own efforts, where there is no hope of a main-stream version?
I hope not.

Agree on comments around the pre-war Q6. I suspect it should also have a windjabber - which they could easily get right by putting the right chimney on it.
Is the Appleby livery correct? I can't recall ever seeing a photo of an LMS designed coke wagon in Appleby livery.

I'm not fussed about whether it's 100% prototypical quite frankly, it's a wagon with something relevant to where I live.Woodcock29 wrote: Is the Appleby livery correct? I can't recall ever seeing a photo of an LMS designed coke wagon in Appleby livery.

And everyone knows that if there is a model that's in some way related to where you live you must buy it with immediate haste

Re: Hornby 2017 range announced
I keep abreast of the Hornby range, but it frustrates me that the product technical information has nothing to do with the model.
Hornby write their own version of historical facts on the machine, which really is available to anyone via Google.
I don't have access to a hobby shop or stockists. So I would like to see information about:
Cast or fabricated chassis
Die-cast or plastic body
How many wheels are driven
If traction tyres fitted
What type of motor (any information better than none), eg skew wound, can, etc
and so on.
I wrote to Hornby recently and asked if they would tell me which of their models in the last 5 years were fitted with a die-cast body, and they replied saying "unable to answer the question".

That's quite a conundrum you've got yourself in.....I think that particular A3 is supposed to be bent....Sea Eagle wrote:I might be tempted by "Gay Crusader" if I can find a straight one at a reasonable price.

I wonder whether anybody at Hornby has spotted that one! I guess that's one way of dealing with the apparent difficulties with their tooling!!nzpaul wrote:That's quite a conundrum you've got yourself in.....I think that particular A3 is supposed to be bent....Sea Eagle wrote:I might be tempted by "Gay Crusader" if I can find a straight one at a reasonable price.
Personally I wish they'd chosen a defrocked A4 as the end of the big four anniversary special...unless they're saving that one for the anniversary of the exchange trials.
