DCC bachmann 21 pin question

Post by Percybigun »

I have two bachmann 21pin dcc ready loco's, does 21pin literally mean plug & play (i.e. No cutting of wires or soldering) for DCC sound conversion? I realise that some internal cutting of loco or tender may be required to physically fit the speaker in.

I havent yet had the confidence to do any 8pin dcc conversions (where i know wire cutting and soldering is needed), so 21 pin conversions will ease me in gently, if they are as easy as i suspect?

As far as I'm aware you can now get both 8 pin and 21 pin decoders with a speaker already wired up to the decoder, requiring you to simply fit the speaker to an enclosure or make said enclosure.

8 pin sound decoder:

21 pin sound decoder

if you're worried about fitting the sound yourself you could get your locomotives sound fitted by someone else instead.

a personal recommendation would be to use DCkits as they have some of the best sounding decoders around
