Good morning all
Here is a silly question that has been bugging me as I cannot find an answer:
Lately I have been replacing the underframe on Kirk coaches with that of the MJT cable type rodding.
The original Kirk coaches had a single battery box. However I can see that some coaches had a battery box on both sides.
I am wondering if there was a standard rule to the number of battery boxes fitted. I assume that catering cars needed battery boxes both sides, and on full brakes, a single battery box would be sufficient.
Did standard passenger vehicles have one or two battery boxes.
I would welcome any ideas.

Re: Battery boxes
The General rule is for vestibule 61'-6" stock is (as always check a GA drawing or a photo).
Full brakes 1 box
Passenger carriages with and without brake ends, buffet cars 1 box either side, 1 dynamo.
Restaurant cars dia 10, 11 etc, 4 boxes, (1 x 45cell and 1 x 12 cell either side) 3 dynamos.
I would not use the Kirk boxes as they are incorrect, he seems to have assumed the central mounting strap was a gap, so provides
in reality 4 half boxes, use the Kirk ones for the 12 cell type.
Edit - corrected to 1 dynamo.

Re: Battery boxes
Well spotted JW...don't know what I was thinking of (vac cyl's) that's the problem of doing it at work in a rush,
mind on other things. Sorry all 1 dynamo is standard, don't take any notice of me in future.
