Grubscrews for gears
I've lost the grubscrew from my Comet models axle gear. They're not listed anywhere as a spare and after after trying all of my spare screws I still can't identify the thread size or form to get some ordered. Can anybody help with the information, either the correct size or a supplier.
I reckon I'll need a few to counteract my usual hamfistedness!
Many thanks in anticipation.

Hi manna
Tried the magnet thing and even had the carpet tiles up all around my comfy chair! My job as a kid 50 odd years ago was to search the carpet/lino for airfix kit bits that my elder brother had dropped, I got pretty good at it. Reward was quite often the finished kit to play with.
I shouldn't be a lazy oaf, especially when I've got a perfectly good bench at the other end of the room.
Hopefully somebody will come along with the information......

Re: Grubscrews for gears
Just drill and tap a new hole to fit a suitable size screw.

Re: Grubscrews for gears
for those of us in London, Clerkenwell Screws near Farringdon are magic for this kind of thing, although individual screws are a little pricey,
but by the box load pretty cheap!
There seem to be a number of fastening suppliers in Notts, what you need to do, if you can get there is take the gear to one or two and
ask them to help. You need someone who specialises in engineering stuff, so Screwfix is out of the window.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply, I'll follow up the suggestions and post a reply if I finally get the info. I'm sure there must be quite a few gears and worms without the screws kicking about!

Re: Grubscrews for gears
I purchased a pack of Comet grub screws from Andrew Hartshorne of Wizard Models at Railex at Aylesbury earlier this year. 5 screws for £1.50. It says they fit all Comet gears and worms.

Thanks Andrew,
Found them on their website (DOH! in a Homer Simpson style). No price as yet but dropped him an email to see.
Thanks to the whole site really, I have learned so much for free over the years!
