Footbridge advertising signs

I seem to recall seeing a photo/s somewhere of advertising signs (enamel I presume) on footbridges. Can't recall where but would this have been correct, particularly in the Grouping era and where on the footbridges would they have been placed?

I can remember advertising material at most of the main line stations which comprised narrow vitreous enamel plates which were attached between each stair tread on footbridges. Particularly York which may even now still have them. I do not remember them as being evident on footbridges outside stations, which in any case were open to the elements. My spotting activities began in the mid 40s, mainly at London main line stations but also at Newcastle Central where I 'lived' at the station during school hols in 1947-9, or at least that is where my parents knew how and where to find me!

Thanks silverfox - train spotting in the mid 1940s? No wonder you're a good source of the sort of info that interests me.

The shots I seemed to recall seeing showed signs on the 'insides' of the railings going up and alongside the steps (and possibly also inside the railings of the actual crossing part of the footbridge - but maybe not as you said could be at the mercy of the elements).

Also were platform number signs ever fixed to the edges of the roof 'canopies' or did they tend to be on separate hanging signs? (I have some self-adhesive platform numbers I'd like to use but they're probably only 2mm high).
