Could someone who has a BR version of the Oxford N7 please measure the height of the chimney, dome and safety valves for me?

Regards

Andrew

In that order, 7.8mm, 8mm, 5.5mm (from top of smokebox for the chimney, top of boiler for the dome and valves). That's the BR early crest 69612, which came in a box as 'early BR' E9621...

Thanks Hatfield Shed. As I thought from viewing photos they are too tall. The chimney should be 6mm (1'6") and the dome and safety valves 7.2mm and 4.1mm respectively based on the Isinglass drawing.

Strange to relate, my better Wills kitbuild for a late 1950s N7 has boiler fittings of those dimensions.

It may just be coincidence, but the OR model's fittings are dimensionally practically identical with those on the Roche drawing of GER 1005. Whatever, I shall mangle it into BR condition form in due course.

Surely someone has a proper engineering drawing, as opposed to a Roche, or indeed one of John Edgson's?

I see Rails Of Sheffield now have the GER version with sound fitted in stock. Has anyone any experience with the sound fitted version and can they share any opinions regarding the sound. Obviously there is a massive saving on the cost of having a high end sound decoder fitted but are you paying for that by compromising on the sound quality?

I'd be interested to know any thoughts.

So I guess no-one has purchased a sound fitted example.

I'll let you know what mine sounds like when they eventually get around to releasing the version I have ordered, over a year ago!!
