Newbie looking for info on Leeds Central station late 50s

Post by AJ427 »

Hello,

I'm new to this forum but I've already found a wealth of useful information so thanks to everyone who's posted here before! :)

I've recently returned to the hobby after many years and I'm looking to model a terminus station inspired by Leeds Central (and the West Riding in general) in the late 1950s as I've moved to this area from the north east. I'm finding info hard to come by (especially colour photos) and I'm not even sure which BR region it was in (North Eastern I think but some sources on the web say the Eastern region ended at Doncaster, others that it came as far as Leeds).
I've had a look at David Heys website which was useful, as well as the Railway Memories books covering the area. There's a lot of info on the station approach and goods yards and surrounds but very little on the actual station itself so any other info or useful sources would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks
AJ in Bradford

Thanks Brian. I managed to find it on Booklaw's website. Seems to be just what I'm after.

Leeds Central

Hi AJ,
In 1964 I used to work in Kirkstall Rd in Leeds, whilst living in Dewsbury and attending college in Bradford. I had to use public transport, so I passed by Leeds Central many, many times. The book I found most useful in reviving my memory of those days (I now live in Kent) is 'Railway Memories No 3 - Leeds' by Peter Rose, published by Bellcode Books under ISBN 1-871233-02-X at an original price of £8.95 in 1992. There's a whole section on Leeds Central, including lots of photos and a track plan. It also contains loads of info about the surrounding areas with a large number of photos. All photos appear to have been taken before the end of steam in 1968. Hope this helps.
