Hello,
I have been a long time "collector" of LNER RTR models, but recently I have decided to try and fix up some second hand models into other examples of the class. As such, I am trying to convert a damaged Hornby "Book Law" into a model of "Humorist", specifically when it had the small wing shaped smoke deflectors and the rimless double Chimney (as in the photograph on the A1/A3 entry on this site).
So far I have replaced the handrail knobs, repaired the damaged running board below the cab and fitted a smaller cut-out cab (with the bucket seats) from another damaged model. I have also replaced the ash-pan lever and the whistle. The cab doors and tender-cover piece will be fitted last, due to their fragility.
It is far from perfect, but I am content with it for a first attempt at “real” modelling. The camera is never kind, either. I plan to weather it at some point, which will hopefully hide some of the ills (although I intend to practice on some coal wagons first, as I imagine it is harder than it looks...).
I have found the smoke deflectors that I think are correct from “Phoenix Precision”, but I cannot find a source of a rimless double chimney,
Does anyone know where I can source one?
I don't have much in the way of reference material, I have been relying on photographs from Google mainly! Is there anything else I have missed for the locomotive at this point?
Thanks
Charles

Re: Humorist from Hornby Book Law - Double Chimney Source
I can supply a resin chimney of the kind seen here in this image of an unfinished model of A2/2 Wolf of Badenoch:
If you want, I'll send you a PM with more info.
The fine bead around the top of the chimney would need to be filed off, with care.If you want, I'll send you a PM with more info.

Re: Humorist from Hornby Book Law - Double Chimney Source
I recently acquired a copy of 'LNER in Focus' by John Crawley and on ps 22/3/4 there are some very good photos of Humorist which may help. Also (in an appendix) are drawings of 3 chimney variations which may be of some help. (This book is a 'must' for any LNER afficianado!)
