A question about foot boards

Post by Quicksilver95 »

Quick question. Does anyone know whether coaches built with continuous foot boards were later converted to separate foot boards? For example I'm currently modelling a Dia 40 brake third which would certainly have been built with the continuous foot boards originally. Would this have been converted in overhauls subsequently or left as built?

Thanks in advance

Left as built, I would say.

I have had a good look through about 200 BR era A3 images, just to be sure.

Thanks John,
Will proceed with original continuous footboards then!

TK 3291 was built with continuous boards but later modified with new brackets welded on at a different height.

But this likely happened during it's period of control train use, so as you were.

'Control train use' would have been beyond the end of ordinary service, 'Sawdust' can you clarify that for Joshua?

I know what you mean, but not everyone has that understanding.

Departmental use after withdrawal from passenger service.

Thanks both. I did suspect that was departmental usage, but as I'm modelling Autumn 1937 I can steer well clear of that! Will post some pictures of progress soon!

Thanks,

Joshua
