Thanks Alan for the rmweb link, even more info to take on board.
Will try 'inverting' the close couplings which seems to be a good idea (but as I have 'bellows' covering the gangways any 'eyesore' effect of whatever type of couplings used, even wide bar tension type, are covered by these).
I do like Limpley Stoker's representation of Brake and Heating pipes (yes, I too am adding these sorts of refinements to my passenger stock) but will remember to cross them diagonally. Obviously anything finished this way will become 'permanent' and MAY be an issue if any derail - part of the fun of the hobby.
