I have had some 'direct' discussions with illustrious, learned and knowledgeable members of the forum on the provenance of points, turnouts and switches and their correct usage in the context of British (and LNER if applicable) railways.
I won't mention their comments (which I am sure are 100% correct) but am interested in any other thoughts on the subject particularly as they apply to (British themed) model railways.
This is largely to clear up some misunderstandings out here in the colonies with certain of my club members.

Well for me at least, in the UK model railway world they've only ever been 'points'.
