Which is one of the reasons we build models?

Re: New Kit Gresley BG 4mm kit
Hello Mick, does anyone know of a clear side-view photo of one of these in ECJS livery?

These are too late to be in Proper ECJS livery, but would certainly have been either painted teak, or scumbled.
The LNER finally closed the ECJS in the 1930's I seem to remember.

The East Coast vehicles remained in a separate number series throughout the LNER period.john coffin wrote: ↑Sun Aug 02, 2020 1:04 am These are too late to be in Proper ECJS livery, but would certainly have been either painted teak, or scumbled.

Re: New Kit Gresley BG 4mm kit
So post Grouping, would the only way to distinguish ECJS stock have been by the numbering, as they'd have carried LNER markings? I had thought that ECJS stock was still marked as such, but writing this I realise that doesn't actually sound very right...

Re: New Kit Gresley BG 4mm kit
In the early LNER days clearly things only changed as carriages went into the works.
ECJS numbering in early LNER days is a whole topic in itself.
Perhaps it is easiest to say that all ECJS, that was not cascaded the the areas, and LNER stock built for EC work was numbered 1xxx, or some lesser or greater equivalent, that is beginning with the number 1.
Correct after being put into LNER livery ECJS did not continue carry a distinctive livery. Simply LNER and a number starting with 1.
Not sure I have explained this very well?

Re: New Kit Gresley BG 4mm kit
As John says, stock was numbered according to the owning Area and the ECJS was teated as an Area in its own right. So all ECJS stock had 1 added to the number, North Eastern Area 2, Great Northern 4, etc.
To complicate matters further, there were separate numberibg series for carriages, horseboxes and CCTs, so there would be 3 vehicles numbered 41 in the GN Area stock, for example.
Vehicles which transferred would be renumbered into the new Area series.
Then in 1943 they were all renumbered again.
Clear as mud?

Re: New Kit Gresley BG 4mm kit
Following the numbering discussion on this 1 item of equipment from a novice's perspective, can I ask for an opinion on the accuracy /usefulness of some items currently on a 'well -known auction site' -a series of publications titled 'LNER Passenger Train Vehicles' A monograph by C J G Bishop.
thanks

Mr. Smart is best placed to comment, but I've always seen them treated as incomplete but authoritative as far as they go.

They are available as digital copies only, rather than the printed copies Chris Bishop originally did, which I see are the ones you are looking at.
This series of Monographs is mostly only vehicles built by the LNER. There are some exceptions in the ECJS series.
They contain just details of the carriages, no plans or illustrations.
