dave alexander kits

Post by paullad1984 »

hi am contemplating buying a dave alexander kit for a j21, but have never put a kit together before! how easy are they?
alternatively ive seen one on ebay recently, fitted with a hornby tender drive unit, how easy would it be to convert it to loco drive?

Paul,
Dave Alexander kits are very good quality,on a par with South Eastern Finecast or DJH kits such as the GCR J10,that is straightforward whitemetal body/brass/NS chassis.Depending on the E-Bay price it might be as easy to simply buy one new and build as intended.ANY kit requires a certain ingenuity and persistence but Alexander would certainly be a good starting point if you don't want to build a tank first.IIRC Nu-Cast also offer a J21 but it would be of earlier origin than the Alexander version.
Cheers,
Rob
