Hello Bill,

I think I can just about understand why corner angles might tighten up as material shrinks, but why would the parallel-sided floor curve in that way?

Probably because the floor was thicker than the sides and was constrained by the solebars. There were so many variables that had an influence, orientation, resin, curing, and even the cleaning solution that I decided that it was all too much hassle to sort out so I just removed the floor, printed it separately and I've had no more problems.

So, my ordered shells came today, and very fetching they are too; once I test fit them, comes the difficult part- painting and detailing.

What would you all recommend for the handrails; like gauge of wire and handrail knobs, and suchlike.

I've used markits and Alan Gibson for most of my detailing parts, handrails, handrail knobs etc. I think their 'long' handrail knob is a little too long but that's just my view.

Within the Gibson and Markits ranges (also sold by, or as, Wizard and 247 Developments types I believe) I think you may be right about the long ones being too long for any frequently encountered need Paul. For my latest GNR 174 class 0-6-0, in order to make the boiler handrails look right in relation to the narrow cab, I needed something in-between medium and short, and I suspect that may be a common situation. I counter-bored all of the fixing holes slightly so that medium length knobs would sink in to allow the centre line of the 0.45mm wire to sit a scale four and a half inches off the boiler clothing.

Well.... this is a new problem; I can't figure out how to get the bodies off the loco and tender.

The Bachmann bodies?

Two screws on the loco shell. One at each end.

Tender has two at the front. And a single screw at the back.

The printed shell uses the same fastenings on the loco, and the front two on the tender.

Cheers.

Dear Paul,

Are you still producing your 3-D print of the LNER J21? If so, I would much like to order one: the version I would like is the preserved one (LNER 876, BR 65033). If it makes any difference, I do not need the Westinghouse pump. Could you please let me know how much you would charge (postage within the UK) and how I pay you?

Yours ever,

William

Hi William,

Yes I'm still producing them, to order at least, as I can't keep a stock at present (never have enough time to print to build up a stock).

The shells are £65 including UK postage, fastenings etc.

Payment is via PayPal, just drop me a message and I'll send the details as required.

Thanks. Paul.

That has an undeniable whiff of plausibility about it.
