It is. I will probably sell the Mailcoach set I have to finish.

Is what? Nice, or ludicrous?? I haven't looked yet but I can guess what I'm likely to think...

Tbh. The coaches are a little high price wise. But its the loco prices which cause are enough to provoke a heart episode

Good news indeed, but expected after the LMS Coronation Scot last year.
Agree prices are becoming a major concern.

I've now tried to look, at the same time as every man and his dog judging by the slow loading of pages. Is there really only a period photograph of the beaver-tail so far to show what sort of coach models might be in prospect? Another example of "order now if you want to stand any hope of ever getting any, and find out only later whether they are any good"?
I suppose it is reasonably likely that they'll all run upright and align correctly when made up into a set, unlike some hand-built examples I've seen. On the other hand, if they follow a recent precedent, the basic bodies might be nearly ten scale feet wide with fittings sticking out another six inches each side. Is there any hope that they'll be painted in any of the same shades of blue that the small specialist paint suppliers to the hobby have been using for years, or will they match nothing that has ever been seen before?
I'm glad I do not feel any urge to have any such coaches for my own use.
Others please feel free to enthuse, and pay up.

It's a gamble as ever; but it is zero risk in that if significantly off-scale sufficient to be visibly incorrect I will cheerfully return the lot for refund as 'unfit for purpose'.

I would be inclined to the optimistic view: Hornby have raised their game on carriage stock over the past decade; following their initial blunderings on the Gresley gangwayed stock all of the Gresley and Thompson non-gangwayed and QoS Pullman cars far exceed what I could make by my own efforts (which I don't want to have to do, my interest is operation above all else). Hopeful and prepared to wait and see...

For those wanting such vehicles, a big plus point might be attributable if they produce the correct shape of beaver tail with believably thin, flush glazing.

I'm even happier with my home-improved, original issue "super detail" Cock o' the North and home-converted-from-Railroad-versions Earl Marischal and Lord President now that I've seen the £275 price tag for Prince of wales with added electronic nicknacks.

Coronation full set just under £500 . They will have to be superb for that money !!

Other than the Observation Coach @ £67 the actual Coaches are a simple shape, no underframe detail neeeded as they have deep side valances , the only complication is the Bogies artic set up. Simple two colour livery as well. I wont be pre ordering.

Hornby should offer them as a complete set, at a discount on that price!! . I wouldnt think many people would not want a full set ,other than for financial reasons.

Another Hush Hush with a additional cowling/double chimney, it ran in that set up for a matter of a few weeks or even less @ £270 , that one I will pass.

Coronation A4 versions x 2 @ £220.00 each, a simple conversion of the R2339 Mallard and other Hornby LNER A4's , mine are already done at a quarter of that price using secondhand Mallards etc.

Hornby Dublo Die cast version of the BR A4, a "collectors" edition £300 plus err no chance !!.

I expect them to be very good. It's the quality of the livery application around the flush glazing that will define my perception of value for money. That's the difficult aspect I am prepared to pay for; the proposed price is similar to their very satisfactory QoS Pullman models, which are currently the only RTR OO vehicles from which an accurate full size LNER period express formation can be created.

Credit cards, BACS, etc.. Do try to keep up.

(I would cheerfully buy 'everything' physical for a model railway if it could be got at an affordable price for acceptable quality. Not really interested in being the 'civil engineer' creating the layout, or running the loco carriage and wagon works to provide the stock. That's done out of necessity, so I can get to the point where trains can be operated on a timetable, recreating the spectacle I observed from the lineside. That others have different approaches defined by their core interest is fine with me.)
