If you don't mind changing the worm yourself, that motor is a Mabuchi FF 050. You can get them from eBay or AliExpress very cheaply. I bought a pack of 10 ff050-11170 from AliExpress for what ended up about £2 each. They are a bit higher revving than the hornby motor 13000 rpm at 12v I think, but I've adapted a Bachmann A1 to take one and that worked successfully.

Many thanks for the information.

I have just looked on ebay . All the motors have so far, a 1.5mm shaft . The Hornby one appears to have a 1mm shaft , I havent attempted to remove the worm so far to confirm size.

I'm certain they're the same size shaft Mick, provided a photo as evidence. The X6442 on the right FF050 left. I could press the shaft about half a mm into the gear before I though it might not come out again without brute force. I'd happily send you the x6442 if was an economical proposition, but it would end up costing you about £20 and you could buy a box of 10 for that.

Thanks for the extra information , there is a tiny gap between the worm and impossible to measure the shaft size at the moment.

I have been very lucky and I have been offered this morning a X6442 Motor via RM Web, so hopefully the problem is now solved. I will send off for some of the motors anyway, as they will be handy as back ups for the future.

cheers again

Mick
