Sorry Mick, how I missed that typo I don’t know

Should have read

“Thanks Mick, that is all very useful. I'm guessing the axles with flat is for the axle with the gears?”

I was looking at the Scalelink page and they offer four types of 16.5mm Axle, two have a ‘flat for a grub screw’

As it happens you’ve answered my (poorly articulated) question, if I switch to Markit’s wheels I need 2 normal axles and a third with the grub screw flat. The last being for the ‘driven’ wheel.

Correct.

If you use a High Level Gearbox they normally have the gear screw offset to one side. Check the High Level instructions. The Markits slotted axles have them in the centre which might be useless as the screw will tighten in the wrong area of the axle.
