NBR fish truck in OO scale 16.5mm

Post by kimballthurlow »

I built a GCR covered fish truck recently, and here is an open Fish Truck as used on the NBR.
This is simply repainted from a Dapol 3 plank wagon, so is meant as a representation.
The only modification was metal wheels, a bar between axleboxe W irons, and a new handbrake lever to approximate the horizontal design.
I have to put the vacuum or other brak hose(s) to the ends. See Mick's link below for extra information.

The load was supplied by naaron88.com in Hungary.
Each crate measures about 8mm long, which I guess is about the size of a fish crate from the first two decades after 1900.
I believe they may have been carried without a lid on occasions.

First an image of another model, possibly O gauge and from this parish?

Thank you Mick for the cross-reference.
Taking another look at the Dapol donor, I should remove the vertical bar on the centre drop down.
Mind you there are so many unprototypical features, it hardly matters.
The model is meant to be representative rather than anything else.

Hi,
I like the repaint of the Dapol wagon. Here is pic of a late survivor that I download a few years back from a Twitter account.

Hit post too quick. I meant to add links to these pics for fish boxes. As you can see there were different sizes.

I suspect that the NBR ones were more likely to a similar size to these ones being loaded at Aberdeen from the late Victorian period to the 1960s.

Hope this helps as I had been looking for some info on these as well to be seen through the slats of some 1920s fish vans.

Good morning all from sunny Surrey

Wizard models do a NER fish truck with low slatted sides from 51L (out of stock at the moment).

I thought it would be an ideal addition to my rake of NER clerestories (built to a method from Caroline Middleditch), hauled by a Whitby Willie (Little engines A6).
